BIOGRAPHY
After 35 years of teaching high school science and working as a school administrator, in Craig Colorado, I retired in 2010 and started my journey into ceramic art. I began by taking a ceramics class at the local community college in Craig CO. This class focused on creating functional pottery, but I quickly found that my passion lied in creating sculpture. I love the creative part of working with clay and the scientific process of firing and glaze chemistry.
My geology degree and interest in mineralogy inspires my sculptures, which reflect the dynamic natural world. I stumbled upon cold glass techniques working with a couple of talented glass artists in Loveland. My love for natural minerals and crystals guided my quest to recreate crystal forms out of glass., which then led to incorporating real mineral specimens into my sculptures.
I presently work in my home studio, in Loveland Colorado. My love of working with clay, glass and minerals to create abstract representations and simulations of crystal structures and geologic environments, defines my mixed media sculptures.
